As a beginner golfer I can enjoy the game without intimidation or fear. Several scheduled tee times per week make it possible to pick and choose times and courses convenient to the golfer. It’s been a great summer of social golfing and of skill development. I look forward to next season.

A great story!When Toronto's golf clubs would not give women a decent tee time, one of them went out and built a club where women owned the whole thing. 🇨🇦Ada Mackenzie was already the finest female golfer in Canada. She won the Canadian Women's Open Amateur five times and the Close Amateur five times, and represented her country for years. What she could not get was access. Women at the established clubs were shunted into the least desirable hours, kept out of the good competitions, and treated as guests on ground they had paid to join.So in 1924 she set up a stock company, sold shares, raised the money with help from the Toronto sportsman J. P. Bicknell, and bought farmland at Thornhill north of the city. The Ladies' Golf and Tennis Club of Toronto was founded that year, the first club in North America where the members, the owners and the staff were all women, and the course opened two years later. ⛳ It is still there, and still describes itself as the only private golf club in North America owned and governed by women.The competitive half of her story has a lovely ending too. She was still competing at the Ontario Senior Championship in 1969, in her late seventies, half a century after her first national title. 🏆Building the room rather than waiting to be invited into it is a rare instinct in anybody.
